Phones before and now

My gran was a teenager ¹ atinto the 1970s. Back then, people ² havearen’t havingdidn’t have smartphones. Gran’s family had ³ aanthe phone, but it was in the living room, so everybody listened to her conversations! I’m happy that I’ve got my own smartphone so I can text my friends and ⁴ usemakedo calls in my bedroom. Life is easier with a smartphone. For example, on Saturday, I’m going ⁵ sightseeinghikingshopping with some friends in the mountains. We’re going by train. Nowadays, you ⁶ don’t have tohave tomustn’t wait to buy tickets at the station, you can buy them on your phone like I did.

Amazing people

There are lots of famous people who do amazing things. But what about people we know? Who do you think is great?

1 ABC I admire my teacher Mr Kelly. Last month, he took part in the London Marathon for the first time. It was hard, but he didn’t stop and he completed the race in four and a half hours. Next year, he’s going to run a marathon in Asia. He always tells us that we have to work hard to achieve our goals. He really inspires me!

2 ABC My grandma Rose is amazing. She’s ninety, but she can use a computer and a mobile phone. She takes great photos and then posts them on her Facebook page. We live far away, so we have to do video calls with my grandma, but she loves it. She says she’s going to start a vlog about using technology!

3 ABC My cousin Matt knows a lot about South America and he speaks Spanish fluently. Last year, he didn’t have a typical summer holiday. He went to Ecuador. He took a bus from the capital city, Quito, to a village in the mountains. He worked with the population and learned their native  anguage. He didn’t use his phone or the internet for four weeks! Can you imagine that?
