      ► Writing letters and memos

      Business letters have standard forms, and so use a very high number of set phrases. For example, if we look at letter a on page 44, we can see that there are only three original sections: 6 June 2006, XYZ tyres, and race cars. The rest of the letter is written in standard phrases.

      Memos are not as standardised as letters, but they also use a lot of standard forms and phrases.

      Some of the most useful of these standard phrases are given in the focus on Language sections. Use them exactly as they are and you will be able to write clear and effective letters and memos.
